billing note: 4/11/2016
wrote from 7:30-9:30. proposed representation agreement.
emails: 6, 1 to client, 2 from cocounsel, 2 to cocounsel, 1 from and to a prospective co-counsel, so that's 7. Mimnimum billing increment is .15 hours, so that's 1 hour of emails.
Phone calls: 0.
spent 15 minutes at 2pm putting up a big chart on the wall of documents that i need to prepare as part of the litigation package.
So that's 3.25 hours.
I spent 45 minutes taking notes on http://federalpracticemanual.org/.
So that's 4.0 hours for the day which is the maximum I consider reasonable to bill in a day, usually.
I worked on the case off and on during the rest of the day, taking breaks for coffee, went out and bought a heater and picked up a mattress, one non-work phone call, but no sustained work, jusy sporadic bits. What I want to work on next is outlining the memo in support for the motion for TRO and temporary injunction.
Didn't go to the dentist or the bank.
I'll need to start doing daily and weekly billing summaries with a rolling subtotal.
billing note tuesday 4/12/2016
9 emails
1 to rodney
4 from xander
4 to xander
2 phone calls
1 to rodney mbi [minimum billing increment] on hold, then left message.
1 to xander, 15 minutes.
so 1.6 hours = 11 mbi.
0.75 hours hour revising complaint based on xander's newest info noon to 1pm.
2.3 hours running total today.
plans: outline memo in support of motion for injunction. review affidavit of indigency.
1.0 hours on memo at 3 pm
3 more emails. 1 from rodney, 1 to rodney and chuck, 1 to xander and helen.
4 more emails, xander to from, rodney to from.
so i have maxed out at 4 hours today. (my general rule is that i don't bill more than 4 hours a day on a case as "reasonable". i should still keep track of extra hours worked, in case the court cuts my hourly fee, because what's reasonable to bill at $23/hr might look different if billed at $100/hr; more of my hours actually spent could be billed, at the lower rate. so start a file for hours spent but not billed.)
5-7 pm, 2 more hours not billed.
11:45-midnight, 2 more emails.
