I don't know much about that economic model, so maybe or maybe not you end up with fresh water as a byproduct. Solar powered pumps then send it inland to farms, greenhouses, fish ponds, and faucets. Excess if any can go to wetlands which percolate into the aquifer. draft a hypothetical email to lee ann about merch. who is the tech guy for their podcasts?
idea: carry other death squad comics' merch on their site, but at twice the price.
and if thatt crazy idea brings in any revenue, put it back into my next crazy idea:
a "bert wants a tesla" jar, or bank account, or whatever. goal: 55 referrals, maybe get a roadster.
so they get a sale and you get a sale. and if nothing sells that's fine.
hi lee ann.
i would like to pitch you a possible new sponsor for the podcast, and a possible guest for the podcast.
tesla and teslanomics. teslanomics, first of all, is a blog/podcast/youtube channel. second, it's the general idea of using tesla affiliate links to get swag.
i forget the host's name, but he's the expert on all things tesla, if you can't get elon musk on the podcast. nd then i'd like bert to try to fit in a visit to Tesla at the fashion mall when he's at morty's joint in feb.
then, say you get some swag. sign it, and put it on the merch page.
example: $2 light bulbs from the dollar store. "Buy one for the price of two!"

so those were some long posts. i'll try to do a more concise version here.
once upon a time, a few days ago, i watched two TED videos. One was on the need to use solar
to replace oil for mideast desalination plants.
The other was about using bacteria to seperate Manganese, Calcium and Potassium from ocen water brine, which is whaat you get during desalination.
This is related to thinking about Tesla, and their need for lihium, which is usually obtained from brine mines.
So one idea is for Tesla to set up a gigafacory at one of these brine mines, to make panels to make elecricity to run the desalintion and mineral extraction plant while load shaping the grid.
I will discuss 3 possible sites below.
The other idea is for Tesla solar to run ocean water desal for anybody who needs it and can afford it (middle east), and then to use the brine as a feedstock.
Step 1 use bacteria to separate out the magnesium, calcium, and potassium.
Magnesium is a strong lightweight metal that alloys well with aluminum.
Tesla can use the magnesium in a future model Y if it gets enough at a lower cost to make it feasible.
The calcium and potassium can be used in fertilizer.
So a plant can offer:
Electricty to the local market,
PV panels to the local market,
PV panels to the world market,
drinking water,
agricultural water for greenhouses
a few jobs
education via patent sharing program, maybe local wifi.
Well this isn't short anymore.
Idea: seasteading
Floating robot raft of PV. It uses PV electricity to drive desal.
Ocean water in, one tank of clean water, one tank of brine.
Then harvest the brine for magnesium, calcium, potassium.
I need a term for the brine once you take out the NaCl, Mg, Ca, K.
What's left, how much of it is Lithium, how to process it, at what cost? I'll call it brine prime.
If the real goal is to get the lithium, and the desal is already being paid for by the market for the water, plus the market for the Mg, or the value of the Mg if Tesla keeps it, they get this brine prime essentially for free. Now, does it have any value? It contains measurable amounts of lithium, boron, iodine, bromine, and other minerals. I am not aware of any bacterial process to isolate these minerals; it would require physical processing of some kind, or chemical.
I suppose I could now run off to google to research whether there are such bugs. If not, Tesla [and or "Science"] could probably breed some.

notes on mineral content of seawater bittern (aftern salt precipitation)
Many brines contain more than one recovered product. For instance, the shallow brine beneath Searles Lake, California, is or has been a source of borax, potash, bromine, lithium, phosphate, soda ash, and sodium sulfate.
so look at searles lake california for desal and lithium mining and bacterial extraction of minerals. and pv plant. next step find out where searles lake is.
san bernadino county runs from near san diego to the nevada border.
several billion tons of mineral deposits are layered beneath the parched playa in a veritable periodic table of minerals and salts. All told, the California Office of Historic Preservation estimates the Searles Lake formation contains samples of at least “half the natural elements known to man.”

The pioneering spirit is alive and well in Searles Lake, where they now tap not only borax, but also potash, soda ash, salt cake, lithium, and other minerals which are shipped out across the country by trainload.

so pv plant, process the brine, get water for greenhouses, or would that drain th lake?
objective: lithium. byproducts: borax, k, etc. can bacteria be used to isolate the minerals? if not, how, cheaply? electricty might be the answer, anodes cathodes etc. if you run a current though the brine what do you get?
at different temperatures?
inyo county is 18000 people and very large so they might welcome the jobs. too far from ocean for desal, but could do desal plants for san diego and LA. desal can level the daily demand curve because you can run it when electricty is cheap, but turn it off in peak times.
Current production (at searles lake) is 1800 tons each day of sodium, potash, boron, lithium, bromine, liquid bromine and boric acid.
Searles Lake's estimated mineral production potential is staggering. Thirty-two square miles of the lake are considered worth commercial interest. Each of these 32 square miles contain an estimated 100 million tons of alkali salts. This supply is expected to last for several generations.
proposed solution:
inyo county gigafactory at the lake. process lithium, make batteries, make solar panels, sodium, potash, boron, bromine, boric acid, just to break even on the lithium.
make solar panels and deploy them. drinking water. bottled and piped. trucked to greenhouses via electric truck. are dust storms a problem?
The West End Chemical Company originally mined borax with poor results when the company was organized by Francis Smith in 1920. Three years later the refinery was rebuilt to recover soda ash in addition to the borax, and it has been successful ever since. The process used to recover soda ash and borax involves injecting the lake brine with carbon dioxide gas, obtained by burning limestone from a nearby deposit. The bicarbonate produced is dried and heated in furnaces where it becomes a fluffy brown soda ash. In its coarse state this is used in the manufacture of glass.
Minerals are primarily found in naturally occurring, subsurface brines, which are pumped to the surface and evaporated to crystallize the minerals. A large evaporation pond (black) is visible in the center of the image. Further processing concentrates the minerals and removes excess water.

The sequence of salts deposited by the evaporation of sea water is in accordance to the solubility of its several compounds. Thus, the precipitation of salts includes the less soluble compounds in the base to the more soluble at the top of the sequence, in the following order: limestone (CaCO3), gypsum (CaSO4), halite (NaCl), potassium salts sylvinite (NaCl-KCl system), and magnesium salts (bischofite - MgCl2·6H2O); it is also considered the presence of other compounds, according to physical and chemical variations of the brine during the various stages of evaporation [9]. id.

so lithium is a bypoduct of K mining, or at least it can be.
Boron:
Because metallic magnesium is extracted from brine by an electrolytic process, the economics are sensitive to the cost of electricity. Dow had located their facility on the Texas coast to take advantage of cheap natural gas for electrical generation. In 1951, Norsk Hydro started a magnesium-from-seawater plant at Heroya, Norway, supplied by inexpensive hydroelectricity. The two seawater magnesium plants, in Texas and Norway, provided more than half the world's primary magnesium through the 1950s and 1960s.
Boron:
| Ocean | 4.6 mg/l[25] | Seawater |
As of 2014, the only producer of primary magnesium metal in the United States was U.S. Magnesium LLC, which extracted the metal from surface brine of the Great Salt Lake, at its plant in Rowley, Utah.
The Dead Sea Works in Israel produces magnesium as a byproduct of potash extraction.
so tesla could do this once is solar is cheap enough, but the bacteria method may be much cheaper. or if enough byproducts are present to make the whole deal economical.

When it’s up and running, the company expects it to be able to produce 16,000 tons of lithium a year from a 50-megawatt geothermal power plant.
The financial reward would be considerable: The price of lithium in 2014 was estimated by the U.S. Geological Survey to be $6,600 a ton — an increase of more than 27 percent since 2010.

Von Spakovsky says that argument rings hollow given what states constantly do with the same information.
“The information we asked for is information that all of these states routinely sell to candidates and political parties. So why they think they shouldn’t give it to this commission looking at election integrity, I don’t really understand,” said von Spakovsky, who contends the federal government has every right to see the same records.
So why don't they just buy the records? Magazines such as campaigns and elections have ads for list brokers. Getting at least the gop lists should be easy. I don't know whether Trump can get his hands on the Democrats' databases, perhaps by buying it from someone with access.
Successful campaigns build dossiers on each voter. They know when they voted, how many square feet in their house, whether they have a fireplace. From 100 integrated data points like that, they can predict, with some accuracy, how subsets of voters are likely to vote, and how they may respond ot a mailing or tv spot or tweet. These models don't tell you how the inividual voter will vote, but over a population they can have predictive vaidity.
So the data the commission wants is already in private hands, and can be accessed, sometimes, for cash. Each team considers its model proprietary, and was expensive to build, but trade secrets tend to leak.
And now a word from our sponsor: Last time I checked, which was many years ago, I could get you a copy of Indiana's voting records and voting lists for $5000, by giving a 5K check to our party chair, who gives it to the secretary of state, who gives them the lists and data. They make a copy, we get a copy. We have a new party chair who is hostile to me, so I can't promise you this trick still works.
I will refund your $5K if I can't get the list.

aspirational goal for the project:
earn a tesla roadster to be the death squad race car. $250,000. deposit is $50k, so the goal/target would be raise the 50K in 2018, then 2019 to get the rest 200,000, as it scales up.
how: get an affiliate link and have the death squad podcasters get that link out.
250 listeners use the code, buy a model x or a solar roof, and tesla will give you guys the car.
why:
1) help elon get to mars
2) get a cool racecar
3) show the ability of the death squad to get things done cooperatively.
4) if it fails the squad could "merely" get a model 3; it scales up or down, all the way to a toy tesla for ila's girl scout troop.
5) comedians in a tesla doing podcasts.
6) ask tesla for a weeklong test drive for leeann.
7) the powerwall:
solves la smog problem. has other benefits. loa shaping software.
set up a "dead squad llc" as a holding company for the car.
process: get tix to feb show.

Other Compensation For Crime Victims
Many victims are interested in how they can be compensated for financial losses that they suffered as a result of a crime. In the criminal justice system, compensation for victims is called restitution. The mandatory Restitution Act of 1996 established procedures for determining the amount of restitution to which a victim may be entitled. Under federal law for most types of crimes, it is mandatory that a defendant, if convicted, be ordered to pay full restitution related to offenses s/he is found guilty of. Orders of restitution follow a defendant for twenty years post incarceration.
